Iconic weird tale author H. P. Lovecraft, in the opening to his story "At the Mountains of Madness" wrote: "I am forced into speech because men of science have refused to follow my advice without knowing why." Why was the fiction of Lovecraft, an amateur astronomer, cautionary of what science might discover? How accurate was Lovecraft's research? This panel of scientists and Lovecraft experts will discuss the science, truth, and fiction behind this classic novella. With Cody Goodfellow (Deepest, Darkest Eden: New Tales of Hyperborea), Shane Haggard (chemistry professor, San Diego City College), Leslie S. Klinger (The New Annotated H. P. Lovecraft), and Dr. Lisa Will (astronomy and physics professor, San Diego City College). Moderated by Aaron Vanek (The H. P. Lovecraft Film Festival and CthulhuCon-San Pedro).
