Comics Arts Conference #9: Comic Books in Therapy: How Do We Redeem the Irredeemable?

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Many of us have stories about how comic books have changed our lives, but can comics be used in therapy? Eisner Award winner Mark Waid (Irredeemable, Incorruptible), psychologist Patrick O'Connor (Comicspedia), and therapist Josué Cardona (Geek Therapy) discuss Waid's BOOM! Studios titles Irredeemable and Incorruptible and how the stories are a reflection of our struggles with doubt, mental illness, and others' expectations. Panelists will explore the protagonists' troubled lives and share the stories of people who have experienced real benefits from these fictional tales. Additionally, panelists will discuss the creative process of these works, including how comic creators understand good, evil, and the expression of this dichotomy through superheroes and supervillains in comic books.
